Reports to:Supply Chain GM Department:5308 Production Control & Logistics
Location:Shelbyville, IL

  • A. Education
    • Bachelor degree
  • B. Experience
    • 3+ years transportation industry or manufacturing supply chain experience.

Manage the site transportation needs (inbound & outbound), conduct freight cost analyses & transportation budgeting, identify & lead improvement initiatives and define & track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

  • Transportation operations
    • Manage carrier coverage, operations, and performance
    • Develop standards and adherence (Guidelines, Practices, Specifications)
    • Negotiates inbound and outbound (as required) freight and carrier pricing and terms
    • Provide cost analysis to buyers for potential supplier sourcing initiatives
    • Troubleshoots problems and arranges / coordinates challenging shipments
    • Support for expedited shipments
    • Provide receiving support for inbound / shipping support for outbound docks
    • Ensure accurate freight classification
    • Provide complete, accurate and timely documentation, e.g. customs and labeling (as required)
  • Warehouse management
    • Develop and implement appropriate storage strategy, i.e. random vs. fixed
    • Develop restocking strategy, e.g. Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) or Kanban
    • Work with purchasing to ensure product footprint aligns with min / max ordering
  • Improvement projects
    • Identify and define continuous improvement opportunities
    • Track projects against success measurements including quality, velocity, cost metrics
    • Provide project reporting and status

  • Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
    • Define and track KPIs
    • Provide accurate and timely reporting for each KPI with root cause corrective action (RCCA) reporting for metrics below target
    • Conduct cost analysis for freight and variance reporting
  • Maintain an appropriate work environment at all times
  • Implement and ensure compliance with safety policies and protection of corporate assets/information

  • Carrier selection
  • Appropriate staffing levels on all shifts

  • Supervise 2 – 4 direct reports
    • Recruits, trains and develops talent
    • Develops goals and metrics with each direct report to evaluate performance

  • Effective communication skills, both oral & written
  • Strong personal skills & a collaborative work style
  • Professional certification in inventory management (e.g. CSCP, CPIM) preferred
  • 6 Sigma / Lean / Kanban experience preferred
