Reports to:Purchasing Manager Department:5306
Location:Shelbyville, IL

Prerequisites:
  • A. Education
    • Bachelor Degree (Preferred)
  • B. Experience
    • 3+ years purchasing / procurement experience (in addition to bachelor degree)
    • 7+ years purchasing / procurement experience (in lieu of bachelor degree)

POSITION SUMMARY:
Plan and maintain the flow and inventory levels of material to support all production areas, while minimizing the inventory investment.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Create purchase orders for production components
  • Schedule / plan material deliveries through MRP system
  • Monitor scheduled deliveries and communicate directly with suppliers to ensure parts are delivered on time
  • Develop and maintain good vendor contacts
  • Manage purchased parts inventory to reduce on-hand value and prevent shortages
  • Coordinate material expedites from suppliers as needed in support of production requirements
  • Investigate all inventory discrepancies for assigned parts
  • Notify proper personnel of material shortages
  • Provide back up support for team members as needed

ACCOUNTABILITY:
  • Ensure component delivery meets / exceeds targets and does not cause a line down situation
  • Ensure component inventory levels meets / exceeds targets

DECISION MAKING:
  • Inventory stock levels including safety stock
  • Expediting needs

SUPERVISION:
  • None

ADDITIONAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Self-motivated, able to perform role with minimal supervision, taking on ownership and demonstrate a sense of urgency
  • Analytical, problem solving and project leadership skills with the ability to lead teams, suppliers and customers to effective solutions
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
  • Aggressively identify / pursue cost savings opportunities
  • Effective communication skills, both oral & written
  • Detail oriented & highly organized
  • Strong personal skills & a collaborative work style
  • Positive attitude & high ethical standards
  • Intermediate to advanced skills with MS Office Products (Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
  • May require travel
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering prints a plus
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing processes preferred
  • Professional certification in purchasing and/or inventory management (e.g. CPM, CSCP) preferred
